Canisius College presents Andi Zeisler, co-founder and editor of BITCH magazine, on Friday, March 7 at 7 p.m. in the Montante Cultural Center. Zeisler’s lecture, entitled “Why Pop Culture Matters to Feminism, Activism and Social Justice,” is free and open to the public. Zeisler’s lecture is sponsored by the Canisius College Women and Gender Studies program, which is celebrating its 25th anniversary.
In her talk, Zeisler will explain how media and pop culture permeate every aspect of our lives, and offer an overview of media and pop culture as a locus of feminist activism. She also will discuss how positive representation of women in pop culture – or lack thereof – has been a key catalyst of feminist action.
Since 1996, BITCH magazine has provided smart, witty and thought provoking commentary and analysis of television, film, music, advertising, books and more. Its mission is to provide and encourage an engaged, thoughtful response to mainstream media and pop culture.
