The Wolf Moon, named for the eerie howls heard during cold winter nights, is all about primal energy and strength. Wolves, calling out to one another through the deep snows of January, inspired this moon’s name. On this hike, as the moon rises almost perfectly aligned with sunset, you’ll be treated to a dramatic transformation from the fiery orange of the setting sun to the cool, silvery light of the Wolf Moon.
This is a time for reconnecting with your inner instincts, much like the wolves who roam wild beneath this full moon. Feel the quiet power of winter as you trek through moonlit trails, where the crisp night air sharpens the senses. With the Wolf Moon above, the landscape transforms into something both haunting and beautiful—inviting you to embrace the wild within.
While no one has turned into a werewolf or Count Dracula during our full moon hikes (so far), we are firm believers in celebrating the magic of this celestial event with a moonlit walk. Join us for an enchanting journey under the full moon’s glow and immerse yourself in the captivating lunar landscape. It’s a night of celestial wonder that you won’t want to miss.
About the Trail: We’re hiking on an actual trail with hills! Yes, right here in Houston! This is not a paved path, which makes it interesting when you hike back at night, in the dark! Distance: 3-4 miles
What to Bring: 1. Red Light Headlamp/Flashlight: Using a red light will help preserve your night vision, keep the animals calmer, and reduce shadows. You can find one at Walmart or Academy for cheap! 2. Water: Stay hydrated before, during, and after the hike. Bring water for the hike—carrying it in a backpack is way more comfortable than by hand. 3. Sturdy Shoes: These are dirt trails, and it’s night, so leave the platforms and flip-flops at home. We’ll check shoes before the hike, and inappropriate footwear will need to sit this one out. 4. No Dogs: As much as we love our furry friends, coyotes in the area pose a risk to pets. We’ll be enforcing a no-dog policy. 5. Adults Only: This is an adult social club event, and our night hike is not suitable for kids.
Leave No Trace: Let’s keep the trails beautiful! Please carry out any trash you bring and, if you’re feeling helpful, grab a shopping bag and pick up litter along the way.
