Join the San Jose Wind Symphony in "Fiesta!" a vibrant celebration of the rich musical heritage of Mexico. Under the baton of Dr. David Vickerman, this exciting concert features an array of music inspired by Mexican culture, including works by renowned Mexican composers Silvestre Revueltas, Nubia Jaime-Donjuan, Genaro Codina, and Juan Pablo Contreras. Experience the lively rhythms, colorful melodies, and deep emotions that define the spirit of Mexico, as the Wind Symphony takes you on a journey through this diverse and dynamic musical landscape.
Our guest ensemble for this concert is Mariachi San Jose, a performance group in the School of Music at San Jose State University whose repertoire is predominantly from Mexico's musica ranchera genre. It is directed by Dr Jose R. Torres-Ramos, Assistant Professor of Ethnomusicology, His research examines how lived experience is musically ritualized within sound, embodiment, and performance in Latin American milieus, with a specialized focus on Mexico's modern mariachi tradition.
