To provide companies with the necessary tools to master the complexities of the Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) funding process, the Maryland Technology Development Corporation (TEDCO) and the Maryland Minority Research Development Initiative (MMRDI) are jointly hosting a conference entitled “Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR): From Awareness to Awards and Commercialization.” The event will take place on Dec. 17 and 18 at the University of Maryland University College (UMUC).
The SBIR program provides grants and contracts to small businesses to develop solutions to problems identified by participating federal agencies. SBIR grants are awarded annually based on requests for proposals by federal agencies and offer technology companies an opportunity to create an established path for growth.
During the pre-conference sessions on Monday, Dec. 17, small and minority business leaders can participate in one of two workshops: unique insight into the SBIR application and selection processes or strategies for getting into the marketplace. A private reception for pre-conference attendees and other invited guests will be held on Monday evening.
The conference on Tuesday, Dec. 18, is for entrepreneurs and companies that may have received SBIR funding, but want to move to the next phase, and others that want to look ahead. The day will include: expert panelists from federal agencies qualified speakers on SBIR funding specialists in the venture capital community and industry leaders skilled at taking small businesses from product development to commercialization.
Online registration is available at www.MarylandTEDCO.org and will end on Dec. 10, 2007. For program information, contact Ron Kaese at rkaese@marylandtedco.org or 410-715-4170.
