From the call for proposals: “The theme of the conference addresses the various ways in which the past is connected to the present, the local to the national and transnational, and the particular to the general, in an age of increasing connectedness. We believe that the nature of the ‘historically challenged’ and increasingly intertwined contemporary world will reshape our approaches to constructing the past in ways that will affect academic scholarship, classroom pedagogy, archival and manuscript preservation, public and museum exhibitions, and the role of libraries and state historical societies. This conference gives us the opportunity as a community to assess the role and future of our profession.”
