DESCRIPTION: Come and take a journey with the lovers of Twelfth Night: a story about twins, shipwrecks, terrible heartbreak, serendipitous coincidences, and the all-healing force of true love. Audiences hike through the natural dramatic beauty of the California Redwoods while watching Shakespeare's sexiest, funniest, and most bittersweet comedy. Ticket holders are encouraged to bring a picnic lunch to enjoy from 12-1pm before the show.
In director Stuart Bousel's Twelfth Night, the fictional Illyria is transformed into Colonial New England. Viola, believing her beloved twin dead, wakes up alone and must dress as a man so she can work and make her way in the world. She finds herself in love with a man who is in love with a woman who is in love with the disguised Viola. Yet, these are not the childish lovers of midsummer's forested dreamers. These are weathered, heartbroken adult lovers. All seek to end the love games and settle down into real happiness, from the lovelorn Duke, to the self cloistered Olivia, and even the drunken and riotous Sir Toby Belch. There is no magic in Illyria, though there is still romanticism - the kind of mystery that comes from coincidences that seem too close to be un-engineered, the melancholy of late nights spent drinking and dreaming, and the all-healing force of love stories whose endings feel more satisfying than contrived.
Starring Reuben Alvear II as Antonio, Ashley Cowan as Viola, Aoife Davis as Fabian, Dimas Guardado, Jr. as Sir Toby, William Leschber as Orsino, Charles Lewis III as Valentine, Carl Lucania as Malvolio, Karen Offereins as Olivia, Chris Quintos as Maria, Shane Rhoades as Curio, Jessica Rudholm as Feste, Ross Travis as Andrew, and Nicholas Trengove as Sebastian.
