I) ACKNOWLEGMENTS

What a complete joy it was working with my dear friend Dr. Mohamed B. Osman on SKETCHBOOK 2009. When Dr. Osman approached me in 2008 to pay homage to east African artists, I was very intrigued. This group of professionals couldn't have generated a better collections for their individual countries. Dr. Mohamed B. Osman, Abdi-Noor Mohamed and Ali Halane presenting Somalia. Dr. Achamyeleh DeBela and Sultan Mohamed presenting Ethiopia. Fred Halla representing Tanzania. David Kibuuka representing Uganda and myself: Hugeaux representing the United States of America. Such a god gifted talent of African men cultivates the richness of our continent: Africa.

SKETCHBOOK 2009 is very dear to me as it mark my 3rd year and has become international. The era of On-Line exhibition is in full swing. This exhibition shall allow villages as well as metropolitan cities to view the exhibition and comment on its richness. This group of African men dominates the Internet as an homage to this new invention: On-Line exhibitions. May God bless this exhibition and its viewers.........Hugeaux

Talent Nearly Wasted

Rated "G" by the Author.

Inspired by a story sent to me by my friend Regis Auffray.

All over the world, especially in the world of the developing
countries, there is huge waste of potentialities that are lost
untapped. I dedicate this poem to the creative and talented men and
women who lack the necessary support to grow and shine in their
respective fields of work.

He was just an average boy in the streets
He sang for the people in his spare time
But only the wind lent an ear to his songs
Nobody thought he deserved attention
Everybody gave him a discerning look
But the boy was an incomparable genius
Who never came in the public attention
Until a musical band discovered him

With promotions of high quality, though
He preformed at the national theatre
Taking the whole city with
a power of an unimaginable storm
Strangley enough he sang the same songs

This was a talent nearly wasted

III) Dr Mohamed Oman, MD
Artist & Physician
(www.osmanart.net)

Art is a strong feeling that communicates with the creative spheres of human brain.

Colors of Art are ubiquitous. They exist independent from our conscious world. They convey energy. We are surrounded by this mysterious energy.

The unconscious part of me strives to capture this invisible energy. It transcribes it into fine art images.

As a self taught artist I am inspired by what I see, feel, touch, think and remember. East Africa is my place of origin. North America gave me the opportunity to practice not only medicine but recreate as well the energy of colors into contemporary African art.

IV) Achamyeleh Debela
Professor of Art, Art Department was featured in the
Exhibition titled “Far From Home” which was held at the North Carolina Museum of Art, Raleigh NC. In the Fall edition of the PREVIEW a North Carolina Museum publication Dr. Lawrence J. Wheeler announced the museums most recent acquisition to its permanent collection announcing that Professor Debela’s work titled Song for Africa to have found a permanent home at the Museum.

Last week Professor Debela has also been informed by Dr. Rebecca Nagy, Director of the Samuel Harns Museum in Gainsville, Florida that the Museum has Selected three of his digital art works to be installed as part of its permanent collection. She said “we are delighted to make this acquisition of a major contemporary African-American Artist. We
Have been planning since his solo exhibition here in March of 2007 titled “Cybervisions: Digital Paintings by Achamyeleh Debela”

Working largely within a context of traditional painting, over the past two decades, Achamyeleh Debela has become established as a leading international figure in the cutting-edge developments of ‘digital art’. This exhibition features 26 of the artist’s latest works reflecting his active engagement with the computer canvas as a means of exploring the synergistic relationship between traditional and digital painting techniques. Technical virtuosity aside, the tour de force behind these digital compositions is further enhanced through the reverent use of an aesthetic visual language that is chiefly informed by the distinct iconography and practices of Ethiopian Orthodox Christianity.

Art Department - University of Florida, Gainesville, Florida.
